Ralph, son of the Adlers, and his wife Sharon, daughter of the Swetz’ and their five boys began the first two weeks in Southold L.I. sailing, water-skiing and boating at the Adlers’ summer home. Patti and Charlie joined them for a four-day stay in Washington.D.C. to visit the Capital, Washington Monument and various museums. Then on to PKS and other favorite spots, the ocean and beach. One cloudy afternoon everyone opted to go to the club pool. With five boys there is always some sport to be played. In the pool, a game of water baseball broke out and three children, who they discovered were grandchildren of Jackie and Clive Luckenbill and visiting from Washington State, joined them. The New Zealanders flew back home Aug. 2 and left their grandparents with magical memories and visions of another visit next year. Mountains or seashore, that was a decision Kim Marie Yates, daughter of Gail and John Halada, had to make when she was offered a position at Carteret Community College in Morehead City. At Mayland Community College, near the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, Kim held the position of Dean of Technology and Social Programs. Apparently the sound of the surf won out, and she accepted the position of Director of Occupational Extension Training and Corporate and Community Education (what an impressive title). Kim and her three children Jessica, Alexia and Aaron, moved into their new home in Newport on July 1. What a thrill for the grandparents, John and Gail, to have their daughter and grandchildren so close by. Goodbye mountains, hello seashore! Pine Knoll Shores has always had residents who gave of themselves volunteering for all sorts of activities. A perfect example is the Beaufort Historical Society which recently conducted a home and garden tour and a living history display. Very visible were acontingent of Pine Knoll Shores volunteers. The group included, but was not limited, to the following: Mary Greene, Kathy Foy, Pat Ruggiero, Jean Hileman, Ronnie Stanley, Cherrie Range and Molly Donavan. Many thanks from all of us for making our community so much richer. Haladas’ daughter Kim Yates with her children Jessica, Aaron and Alex.
